Gustav Klimt, founding member and president of the Vienna Secession, a dissident group. The group’s symbol was Pallas Athena (Minerva for the Romans), the powerful Greek virgin goddess, goddess of justice, strength, courage, wisdom, war, and the arts.

Legend says that Athena sprang from Zeus’s head, letting out a thunderous war cry, fully armed. On her aegis was the golden head of Medusa. She holds the figure of Nuda Veritas, or “naked truth,” in her right hand, while in the background Hercules battles Triton.
